Prior to establishing Premier Strategy, Joanna was a journalist and a government communications advisor working in both state and federal governments. With more than 18 years of hands-on experience, Joanna possesses extensive skills in government relations, strategic communications, community engagement and issues management.

Qualified

Bachelor of Arts (Journalism), Graduate Diploma in Strategic Communications, Certificate in Engagement, International Association of Public Participation Australasia (IAP2).

Joanna is the ‘go to’ person for regional engagement. Joanna was born and raised in the Ballarat region, where her family has lived for over five generations.  She has a strong network of regional business, community and political contacts who helped foster and shape her ambition to create her own business.

Registered Government Lobbyist, International Association for Public Participation Australasia (IAP2), CEO Institute, founder and owner of Uncover magazine, Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA), Committee for Ballarat, St Patrick’s College Board member, Telstra Young Businesswoman of the Year finalist. 

Technical Experience

  • Secretariat for Central Highlands Councils developing its Regional Investment Plan. Following the launch at State Parliament, five of the six transformational projects have been funded. More than $100 million has been invested into projects identified in the Regional Investment Plan. 

  • Working with the Committee for Shepparton and four surrounding Councils in developing the region’s Investment Prospectus. 

  • Providing strategic advice and counsel to large manufacturing and mining industries across regional Victoria including Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm, Fosterville Gold Mines and Gouge Dry Cleaning and Linen Services.  

  • Hosts regular delegations of regional Victorian business leaders to Canberra and Melbourne and secures meetings with Ministers.  

  • Provided community and stakeholder engagement services during the EES process for the Big Hill Enhanced Development Project.  

  • Facilitated an agreement between Neoen Australia, Nectar Farms and the Victorian Government that resulted in the construction of the Bulgana Green Power Hub. 

  • Secured $40.7m for Federation University’s Berwick Campus to offset the Federal Government’s funding freeze. 

  • Provided crisis communication services following two workplace fatalities at a construction company.
